More answers for coast road users

Project manager for the Slapton Line Partnership, Alan Denbigh, with copies of the new newsletter

16th May 2008

An informative newsletter has been launched for the Slapton Line community and other coast road users.

Slapton Line, Living with a Changing Coast, was launched last week in response to market research, which found that the local residents and businesses looked to a newsletter for their information second only to the media.

The content of the newsletter is also shaped by the research, with more extended news on coast road developments, interviews with Slapton Line Partnership members, an area for local events and articles exploring how residents and businesses are adapting to the changing coast line.

It replaces a publication by the Slapton Line Partnership, which had existed as a source of news for local residents alone since 2001.

The newsletter is one of many on-going partnership projects funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), which granted £245,000 specifically to help the communities around the Slapton Line to adapt to the predicted coast road loss.

Project manager for the Slapton Line Partnership, Alan Denbigh, said: "More than 600 residents and businesses were consulted last November and people looked to a newsletter for their information on the Slapton Line, in particular on the matter of the coast road.

"We hope the Slapton Line, Living with a Changing Coast newsletter helps to answer some (mf) of the questions people have and offers reassurance that there are other residents and businesses out there adapting to the changing coast, especially the definite life-span of the coast road."

Unlike the Partnership newsletter, the six-monthly Slapton Line, Living with a Changing Coast newsletter is being made more widely available, to all regular users of the coast road. Amongst other locations, the newsletter is available from Dartmouth and Kingsbridge Libraries and Tourist Information Centres, local parish councils and post offices, along with community clubs and organisations.

Whether you live or work in the area or just use the road regularly, the Slapton Line Partnership would like to add your details to their distribution list for the e-newsletter - send an e-mail to communications@slaptonline.org.

If you don't use e-mail, call 0845 388 9147 and the Slapton Line Partnership will arrange for you to receive a printed version.
